Music to soothe the soul


One of the most wonderful ways to relax either by yourself or in the company of friends is by listening to music. This week sees two musical events in Galway that will delight and distress everybody. One is low price and one is free.

 

Tonight, the Galway Music Residency kicks off its national tour in Galway City featuring The Galway Ensemble in Residence, ConTempo Quartet, performing music by Karen Power, Jane O'Leary, Beethoven and Steve Reich with visuals by Romanian video artist Mihai Cucu. Tuesday, October 8th @ 8.00pm in the Nun’s Island Theatre, Galway.

Tickets on the door. Adults €10 / 8; free admission for children up to age 16. This is an extraordinary musical-visual event that you will not want to miss and it all begins here in Galway!

FREE Choral Concert on Wednesday, October 9th 2013 at 8.00pm in Galway Cathedral

A capella Ensemble Lübeck, an internationallyaward-winning choir from Lübeck in Germany, will perform a concert of choral music, the programme includes music bySchütz, Schumann, Ireland, Distler, Stanford and others.

The choir will be joined for the concert by Cathedral organist RaymondO'Donnell, playing music by Stanford and Bach. Admission is free.
